- ➤ Communities First, Inc. invites Flint residents to create personal, family, and community vision boards at its free event. Taking place Friday, Jan. 9 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Coolidge Park Apartments gymnasium, all materials + light refreshments and music will be provided. Flint Beat
- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters plans a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. mentoring inspiration breakfast on Jan. 19 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Conference and Event Center in downtown Flint (featuring retired Lt. Col. Derrick L. Britton and Commissioner James Avery) to honor King's legacy of service. MLive
- ➤ The Genesee County Human Trafficking Task Force is leading Human Trafficking Awareness Month to educate local families about online dangers for children; the group shares safety tips on Facebook and will hold a candlelight vigil at the Genesee County Sheriff's Office later this month (January). - ➤ Flint’s annual 'Focus on Flint' survey by the Mott Foundation shows residents continue to worry about crime and public safety while noting improved water quality; the survey collected responses via emails and postcards and will help guide future grant decisions. - ➤ Flint’s Holiday Inn Express is still closed after guests were evacuated for fire safety reasons. The hotel plans to install a temporary pump & secure a permit so it can reopen by week’s end. ABC 12

- ➤ Flint will advance key projects in 2026 including a state park, an industrial complex at the former Buick City site, Marian Hall redevelopment, a new high school, and a UM-Flint technology building. Council and funding decisions plus construction schedules will shape these projects across local neighborhoods. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bendle Middle School is closed through the end of the week after a roof collapse on Tuesday night caused by heavy snow and ice buildup, and officials say a structural engineer will inspect the building before students return. Mid-Michigan Now

- ➤ The Genesee County Board approved resolutions recognizing MLK Jr. Day on Jan. 17 and the National Day of Racial Healing on Jan. 18 as part of ongoing equity efforts (linked to a local TRHT initiative). The MLK resolution passed unanimously; the racial healing measure received a split vote. MLive
- ➤ Grand Blanc officials will review a final site plan for a proposed Randy Wise Hyundai dealership at 6 p.m. today at the township offices. The project submitted by Wiseman Realty LLC for a 3.95-acre parcel along Holly Road would create a 23,000-sqft building to replace the current site. MLive

- ➤ State Sen. John Cherry joined Flint health care experts in a forum on Wednesday to discuss available resources. Jim Milanowski of Genesee Health Plan stressed the meeting aimed to help residents understand their options. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ A free anger management program will launch Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library. The six-week course aims to help adults impacted by the water crisis with sessions from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for residents 18 and older. MLive
