- ➤ A Flint-based nonprofit acquired the former Dort Meat Market on Dupont Street and plans to transform it into the Ubuntu Building, a hub for community-led healing, learning, and revitalization featuring programs in workforce development and youth leadership. MLive
- ➤ The Humane Society of Genesee County marked its 100th anniversary with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 8 & hosted a celebration at the shelter on South Dort Highway in Burton until 7 p.m., honoring a century of care for local animals. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Grand Blanc Township Firefighter Chris Keller won a $1,000 gift certificate from Gaines Jewelry for volunteering as a bell ringer with the Salvation Army Red Kettle over the holiday season. - ➤ Flint Township Planning Commission met yesterday at 6:00 p.m. at the township building (1490 S. Dye Road) to review Ambers Wheat West, a proposal for 259 homes on 86 acres. The plan will build for-sale, rental, and townhomes in two phases from 2026 to 2030 (preserving 16 acres of wetlands). MLive
