COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On MLK Day, the Flint Handmade Yarn Brigade gave away over 50 handmade hats and scarves in downtown Flint. The group will hold a meeting on Friday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. for those interested in joining.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • St. Paul's Episcopal Church will host Swing with Jimmy, a trumpet and organ concert on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. The event offers local music fans a chance to enjoy a live performance in a historic community venue.  ABC 12
  • Flint residents can apply for grants up to $20K under the Mott Centennial Neighborhood Improvement Initiative—offering $600K for public space projects—and attend info sessions at 3216 Martin Luther King Ave starting Jan. 26; all applications are due Feb. 27.  Flint Beat

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new Kroger in Fenton will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., after which guests can shop and sample products while the store donates $10,000 each to local city projects and schools (its 10th location in Genesee County).  Mid-Michigan Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sloan Museum of Discovery in Flint unveiled the new Ice Dinosaurs exhibit on Tuesday and will display interactive displays featuring new dinosaur species from the Alaskan Arctic until May 3 (the Longway Planetarium will also host a TREX show for families).  ABC 12
  • The Sloan Museum of Discovery presents Ice Dinosaurs: The Lost World of the Alaskan Arctic, a new interactive exhibit on polar dinosaurs now open until May 3. Visitors can view real fossils and casts that challenge old beliefs & reveal how these creatures adapted to extreme Arctic life.  Mid-Michigan Now
