- ➤ Creative Cafe on Corruna Road will host a silent book club and other events + guests should dress warmly as southeast Michigan faces a cold weather advisory from 1 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday. ABC 12
- ➤ Today, warming centers in Flint offer refuge from bitter cold weather. The Shelter of Flint welcomes women and children at 5 p.m. while Catholic Charities' Center for Hope serves men from 6 p.m. with extra spaces available at local community centers until March. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Leadership in Flint unveiled the (Flint Police Activity League’s Community Bus) on Thursday, Jan. 22 to provide transportation for senior centers and youth events; Mayor Shledon Neeley said the bus was obtained through (grant funding). Mid-Michigan Now

- ➤ Kroger opened its first new store in Fenton last year at an 80,000 sqft facility featuring Murray’s cheese shop, a bakery, deli, sushi counter & drive-thru pharmacy; the store created 120 new jobs and hosted a celebration with local vendor samplings and an autograph session with a Pistons player. - ➤ Chrome and Ice will perform at The Dort next month, with shows scheduled from February 13 to 15 in Flint, offering music and performance art for local audiences. ABC 12
- ➤ The Flint Institute of Arts will host its 19th Annual Community Gala on Saturday, Jan. 31 — the event opens with the new exhibition Gateways: African American Art from the Key Collection and features a lecture by Eric Key at 6:00 p.m. A reception begins from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mid-Michigan Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Flint students, with help from an advisor, can apply for the new Mott Foundation Youth Choice Awards to propose community-improving projects and receive one of 100 grants ($1,926 each). The program has deadlines on Feb. 20 and Oct. 9 to allow ample project planning. Flint Beat
- ➤ The Michigan Times returned on Jan. 14 bringing independent student journalism back after an 18-month hiatus - Editor-in-Chief Ramla Ouedraogo leads efforts to rebuild the staff and resume print editions. A relaunch party was held on Jan. 22 at Clint's Cafe on campus. MLive

- ➤ A cold weather advisory covers southeast Michigan from 1 AM today to 10 AM Saturday — wind chills may drop to 25 below zero, risking frostbite and hypothermia — so residents are urged to dress warmly and keep pets indoors. ABC 12
