  • Grand Blanc Township Fire Marshal Chris Keller (volunteer bell ringer) received a $1,000 gift card from Gaines Jewelry through the Time-2-Ring promotion to honor his service. He said he will use the gift card to buy a ring for his wife.  Mid-Michigan Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eligible GM hourly workers will receive profit-sharing checks of $10,500 on Feb. 27, 27% lower than last year's record payments, according to a statement released Tuesday. Production at Flint Assembly resumed Jan. 26 after planned renovations.  MLive

  • Two Flint priests in training met Pope Leo XIV on Christmas Day in Vatican City during a month-long study trip. The encounter gave them firsthand insight into serving during mass and deepened their commitment to their future ministry.  ABC 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mott Foundation will award 100 grants to Flint students, each valued at $1,926 to mark its founding year—giving youth a chance to lead community projects. Adult advisors must submit project applications by Feb. 20 and Oct. 9 as winners select the next group through a relay process.  MLive
  • Bridgeport-Spaulding Community Schools reinstated superintendent Mark Whelton on Monday, Jan. 26 after an independent investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing, and the board voted 4-3 to return him to his role.  MLive
  • U.S. News & World Report ranked five Michigan colleges among the top 150 best online bachelor’s programs, with Oakland University and Western Michigan University tied at No. 89 and Ferris State, Northwood and Central Michigan also making the cut. University of Michigan-Flint appears further down the list at No. 213.  MLive
