COMMUNITY NEWS

  • For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum will host a stuffed animal sleepover starting Friday, Jan. 30 through Sunday, Feb. 1 during the Groundhog's Day celebration. Participants will join live animal encounters, nature walks, and online sessions and must pre-register by Wednesday, with each stuffed friend costing $20.  Mid-Michigan Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rooted Lotus Yoga opened in Flint Township on Jan. 28. The new studio on Miller Road now offers local residents a place to practice yoga.  ABC 12
  • Flint's Holiday Inn Express reopened to guests Tuesday on Robert T. Longway Boulevard — the hotel had been closed nearly a month for fire safety concerns and was cleared by the fire department. It will hold a grand opening ceremony in early February.  ABC 12
  • Love’s Travel Stops submitted a concept plan (3383 Thompson Road, Fenton Township) for a travel stop with a store, restaurant, tire shop and fueling bays. The township noted that the plan does not match the master plan and feedback discussions are ongoing.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Flint Institute of Music announced a full slate of spring performances featuring nationally recognized comedians, orchestral concerts and youth showcases at venues like the Capitol Theatre and Whiting Auditorium — presale tickets open today at 10 a.m. with public sales starting tomorrow.  Flint Beat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Genesee County is accepting applications for historical work roles including locomotive firemen and sawmill operators at Crossroads Village. It will host on-site interviews during a job fair on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 6140 N. Bray Road in Genesee Township.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Foutch's will host Hot Stove Night with former Tigers player Brandon Inge on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. in Flint & fans can enjoy a chance to talk sports and meet a local sports icon.  ABC 12
  • Ashley Farquharson is preparing for the Winter Olympics by competing in the luge event. The local athlete took part in time trials on Jan. 28 and will continue training to represent our community in upcoming competitions.  ABC 12
