COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city of Burton is using 647,325 dollars from its street funding to build a one-mile nonmotorized path that will connect Kelly Lake Park to the For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum. The project will start later this year and finish by October.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • FIM Flint Repertory Theatre named Nicole Samsel its producing artistic director after she served a year as interim leader. The theatre will premiere 'Lucky Stiff' in March and resume Flint Rep on the Road in February — a program that brings plays to schools and senior centers.  Flint Beat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation has launched a national Million Dollar Challenge for K-12 students to pitch innovative business ideas and social initiatives, with entries open until Feb. 27 and finalists pitching in Flint in June (students may enter individually or in teams).  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Grand Blanc Township police and fire departments launched a joint Peer Support Team on Monday to provide round-the-clock mental health aid for first responders after stressful incidents. The 9-member team—trained in crisis management—aims to help colleagues access timely support.  ABC 12
  • Flint Community Schools are advising parents to keep children at home when they show Flu or COVID symptoms to help learning and reduce illness spread. The guidance comes amid a surge in reported cases.  Mid-Michigan Now
