- ➤ On Tuesday, Feb. 17, the Flushing Chamber of Commerce hosted its 8th annual paczki eating contest at Bueche's Food World in Flushing, crowning champion Don Covert who ate six and two-thirds paczki in three minutes (the event raises funds for downtown holiday decorations). MLive
- ➤ Investigators are looking into animal neglect after 61 dogs and three cats were rescued Tuesday morning from a Flint Township home where more than 80 animals lived or died, and Genesee County Animal Control now cares for the survivors — rescue groups are being contacted to find them new homes. - ➤ The Gateways Exhibit is on view at the FIA in Flint until April, featuring local art. The exhibit brings creative work to the community + offers a fresh look at local culture. ABC 12

- ➤ Mott Community College in Flint is holding a board meeting today at 5:30 p.m. to address a complaint from Americans United for Separation of Church and State over President Shaunda Richardson-Snell reportedly sharing her religious views in her official role. Flint Beat
- ➤ A state mediator ordered a 28-day pause on contract talks between the University of Michigan and the Graduate Employees’ Organization after sending a letter on Feb. 12; the university said it will comply while working with GEO to set protocols for future sessions. MLive
- ➤ Michigan schools implemented a classroom cell phone ban after discussions that included educator Dr. Craig Douglas (an education expert) on Feb. 17, with local districts aiming to reduce distractions and improve learning. ABC 12

- ➤ Flint Township approved plans on Feb. 12 to redevelop a former GM landfill on South Linden Road into a solar energy site using collectors by AC Power over more than 28 acres between Calkins Road and West Court Street — which returns the property to the township’s tax rolls. MLive
