- ➤ Community groups are hosting fish fries every Friday from Feb. 20 until Easter—Flint's Christ the King Catholic Church offers a $15 dinner while posts in Swartz Creek, Grand Blanc, and a church in Davison serve different menus at set prices. MLive
- ➤ Genesee County Animal Control will host an emergency dog adoption event on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its facility at 4351 W. Pasadena Ave where reduced adoption fees of $10 plus a $10 license fee aim to free space for 61 dogs. Flint Beat

- ➤ The Chosen Few Arts Council is hosting an African American Celebration featuring music, art, and community on Feb. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Greater Flint Arts Council (816 S Saginaw St). Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Flint School of Performing Arts is hosting its annual concert celebrating Black history today at 7:00 p.m. in MacArthur Recital Hall. Student performances include music, theatre, and dance that honor influential Black artists and feature a collage-style program. Mid-Michigan Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bendle School District officials are seeking an emergency demolition permit to tear down a damaged section of the middle school after further roof collapse occurred on Feb. 16 — weather conditions may have contributed to the collapse, and officials confirmed that classrooms remain safe with security on site. - ➤ Mott Community College trustees delayed a statement about a complaint that President Shaunda Richardson-Snell made proselytizing remarks at the Peace & Dignity Observance. They will consider the proposed statement at their next meeting on Feb. 23 after a Feb. 18 meeting discussed a nonprofit letter. MLive
- ➤ The Mott Foundation is investing $20 million to improve Flint park and playground spaces as part of its centennial celebration; on Feb. 18, the Flint Community Schools Board accepted over $7 million to upgrade playgrounds at five school sites—community input will help shape features for local children and families. - ➤ Flint community members and law enforcement gathered at First Presbyterian Church on Saginaw St. on Thursday to honor fallen officer Charles Redmond, who died by suicide earlier this month; a GoFundMe for his 8-member family has raised nearly $40,000. Mid-Michigan Now

- ➤ Genesee County Health Department ordered Lucky's Steakhouse in Davison to close starting Thursday, Feb. 19 after a Feb. 18 inspection found six food code violations (including four repeats); the restaurant will reopen only when county standards are met. MLive
