- ➤ The Back to the Bricks Tune-Up Parties will run from August 4 to August 9 at several Flint-area locations including Davison, Flushing, Lapeer, Owosso, Flint Township, and Mt. Morris, and will feature music, food trucks, 50/50 drawings, and giveaway Collector Shirts from Huntington Bank (available during event hours) with registration opening soon (details to follow). CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Michigan State Police say a 25-year-old man died from stab wounds after a fight broke out at a McDonald’s on Dort Highway in Flint Friday evening — a 53-year-old man was arrested at the scene after being treated for minor injuries. ABC 12
- ➤ The Metro Police Authority announced a new plan on Monday to partner with three hotels near U.S. 23 and Hill Road to teach staff how to spot suspicious activity and boost hotel security against drugs and other crimes—efforts will include regular police inspections and ongoing security training. - ➤ The 'This Is Me Takes Saginaw' special needs fashion show will be held on Sunday, April 27 at Buena Vista Community Center to give youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities a chance to show their talents. Organized by Shortorah Carter of the Grateful Love Foundation — and Tracy Palmer of the Flint-based This Is Me Foundation — the event will celebrate inclusivity and self-expression. MLive
- ➤ FIM presents the world premiere of 'A Driving Beat' at the Flint Repertory Theatre (running from March 14th to March 30th). ABC 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Burton city officials will hold a demolition hearing at 6:30 p.m. on April 21 at City Hall to decide the future of the overgrown 95-acre Southmoor Golf Club property—an eyesore since it closed over five years ago. If approved, demolition will begin in the coming months—costs to be covered by the property owner while negotiations continue over a rising sale price. MLive
- ➤ Seventy-eight Genesee County Jail inmates in Flint were enrolled in a new opioid treatment program that began by offering prescription drugs instead of forced detox. County commissioners approved a contract with New Paths on March 12th to coordinate treatment (funded by a state police grant of $250,000) and additional county lawsuit settlement funds ($62,500).
