COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Flint renamed the former Hasselbring Senior Center to the Eric Mays Senior and Community Center — honoring the late councilman at a dedication event attended by his family and local residents. The center will continue to provide senior services and community programs while a permanent sign is prepared.  Mid-Michigan Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Flint Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Enrique Diemecke, will play the famous music from The Godfather while showing the film at FIM Whiting Auditorium (1241 E. Kearsley St.) starting at 7:30 p.m. on March 29. CineConcerts will run the event to offer a new way for local audiences to enjoy the classic film with live music.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mott Community College will host its first Music Tech Industry Day on March 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mott Memorial Building in Flint—50 people can sign up to hear experts like Grammy producer Brandon Williams and Academy Award-winning songwriter Luis Resto share their experiences.  Flint Beat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Genesee County asked residents for input on proposed road and transportation projects for its draft Fiscal Year 2026—2029 Transportation Improvement Program and Safety Action Plan to reduce vehicle crash injuries. Residents met yesterday at Flint Farmers’ Market and can share additional ideas on March 20 at Krapohl Senior Center and Loose Senior Center.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Flint’s mayor Sheldon Neeley asked City Council to reallocate $2M from ARPA funds to cover a planned 5.9% water rate increase from the Great Lakes Water Authority starting in July — the proposal is on the council Finance Committee agenda today.  MLive
  • Michigan House representatives voted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. on House Bill 4170—if approved and signed it would have lowered the income tax rate from 4.25% to 4.05% as of January 1 and made the cut permanent; the measure amends the Income Tax Act so future tax returns reflect the lower rate.  Mid-Michigan Now

  • Claressa Shields' boxing suspension in Michigan was lifted after she met with the Unarmed Combat Commission on March 6 and petitioned the board on March 14. She can now box in her hometown, although a formal complaint remains unresolved.  Mid-Michigan Now
