- ➤ Flint-area musician Cainaen McGhee performed at Queens’ Provisions on Mar. 13, drawing on country, pop, folk and R&B influences to build a strong local following. He is set to release part of his long-worked album soon and hopes to expand his reach with potential shows in Nashville (he credits the supportive local scene for his success). Flint Beat
- ➤ Detroit rapper 42 Dugg and YK NIECE will perform on March 22 at Flint’s Capitol Theatre to celebrate promoter EBaller’s 23-year career in entertainment (the show begins at 8 p.m.) with tickets starting at $55 and additional acts like comedian Jack Funny. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Flint Community Schools asked the state for $8.7 million on Tuesday, Mar. 17 to demolish four vacant schools (Flint Northern High, McKinley Middle, Anderson, and Stewart Elementary) that have become liabilities for the community. Superintendent Kevelin Jones said the demolitions will cut maintenance costs and free resources for students. MLive

- ➤ Genesee County Parks & Recreation is hiring for special projects, maintenance and seasonal operations positions at sites including Wolverine Campground with pay starting near $19 per hour, up to 40 hours weekly. Applicants can apply online to work on park grounds from May to October. MLive
