COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students and community members cheered at Freeman Elementary today as Bubbles the blind beagle—an ambassador for kindness—visited to help change the life of blind fourth grader AJ, who received Meta glasses after a fundraiser raised money in one day. AJ now can use the glasses to read screen text, count money, and explore the world more independently.  Mid-Michigan Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Three Flint adults — Charles Ashbaker (38), Kelly Walker (29), and Dougal Nelson Junior (47) — are charged with alleged child and animal abuse after police found a 9-year-old boy living in deplorable conditions and several dogs dead or malnourished at a home on Mabel Avenue.  ABC 12
  • Flint police reported 54-year-old Keith Delahanty missing after he was last seen on February 24th on the 3700 block of Dolphaine Lane wearing jeans and a sweatshirt; he is 5'8" and 220 lbs (brown eyes and grey/brown hair) and anyone with information is asked to call 911 and reference FPD Complaint Number 25-900189.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Christopher Demond Meadows, a 32-year-old Flint man, was convicted on 15 charges including first-degree murder, attempted murder and multiple firearm offenses for a 2019 revenge shooting near downtown Flint that killed Wanda Garner and injured two others—he will appear in Genesee County Circuit Court on April 14 to receive a mandatory life sentence without parole—and his conviction marks a third trial in the case.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Transportation is moving into phase two of its multi-year I-475 corridor reconstruction ahead of schedule in Flint—workers have wrapped up the North Section and detours remain on southbound lanes at Carpenter Road. MDOT expects the southbound stretch from Carpenter Road to Broadway Boulevard to reopen by September 10 while work on the Middle and South sections will start in coming years.  Flint Beat
  • The Genesee County Board of Commissioners met on March 19 to discuss a $464,913 contract for upgrading 86 jail showers at the county jail—part of needed repairs for the nearly four decades old facility. Officials said additional upgrades will be planned next week to further improve safety and cleanliness.  MLive

  • Senior guard Haven Chapman led Genesee Christian to a 31-22 win over Morenci Tuesday night at Brighton High School. Her historic play sets up a state semifinal appearance at the Breslin Center today.  MLive
