  • The Latinx Technology & Community Center canceled the Chavez & Huerta Luncheon Celebration scheduled for March 28 following abuse allegations against Cesar Chavez. Organizers said they will send ticket refund details and plan community dialogue sessions for healing.  MLive
  • The 2nd Annual Concert of Hope will support youth outreach at St. Mary Mission at 2415 Bagley St on Sunday, March 22. The free event starts at 3 p.m. and donations are encouraged.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Hurley Medical Center and the Hurley Foundation will host Come Fly with Me: A First Class Experience, an aviation-themed fundraiser at Aerodesign Services on Bristol Road in Flint on April 11 from 6-10 p.m. (The event will support patient care programs and community health initiatives.)  MLive
  • Thursday, Flint's Cultural Neighborhood Association met to discuss plans to repair the historic 100-year-old Court Street Bridge over Gilkey Creek + the project, part of America the Beautiful 250 celebrations, will be marked with a festival when restoration is completed.  ABC 12

  • GM’s Flint Assembly built its 16-millionth vehicle on Monday, March 16 when a metallic blue Chevy Silverado 2500 rolled off the line at the historic plant near Van Slyke Road. The truck, featuring the 3.5-millionth Duramax diesel engine, was delivered to buyer Andy Sanford.  MLive
  • Small business owners in Flint can meet local lenders at the first-ever Meet the Lender event hosted by the Genesee Entrepreneurial Network. The event runs Thursday, Apr. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University of Michigan-Flint Northbank Center and features one-on-one meetings with multiple financial institutions.  Flint Beat

CULTURE NEWS

  • One Night of Queen, a tribute concert celebrating Queen's 40th anniversary of The Works Tour, will play in Flint on Wednesday, March 25 at 8 p.m. and run for about 2.5 hours (tickets start at $60).  Mid-Michigan Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flint Community Schools Superintendent Kevelin Jones announced demolition of Flint Central High School will begin in April; residents will later help design the new school (including pedestrian improvements).  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Genesee County Animal Control department is now called Animal Care with immediate effect after county commissioners approved the change on Wednesday, March 18. The new name reflects the shelter's no-kill policy and focus on compassionate service.  MLive

  • Dakota Landers' search ended on March 10 when a microchip scan returned his missing cat, Chloe, from Adopt-A-Pet in Fenton—he confirmed that the 8-year-old diluted tortoiseshell is safe and well-nourished.  MLive
