- ➤ Great Lakes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, located at 2014 Zimmerman St, offers martial arts classes for kids and adults and serves as a family-friendly hub on Flint's west side — founder Kelley Quijano said she plans to expand programs and secure nonprofit funding to help more people access training. - ➤ MusiCollage 2026 will host a free concert at Whiting Auditorium on Thursday, Mar. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Local residents can look forward to an evening of live music. ABC 12
- ➤ University of Michigan Flint Theatre presents Lucky Stiff and it will run for the coming days; tickets + show times are available online for local residents to enjoy a unique cultural experience. ABC 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Flint Community Schools launched a graduation initiative to boost rates by starting a program in kindergarten that runs through 12th grade (reducing absenteeism) and enlisting community support. The campaign was announced today to build on steady improvements since 2023. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Thirty-six MSU medical students in Flint celebrated Match Day on Friday when they learned their residency placements at hospitals across the country — one student will begin an emergency medicine residency at Henry Ford in Detroit. ABC 12
- ➤ Flint Community Schools leaders asked for over $8 million in state funding this week to demolish four abandoned school buildings that have raised safety concerns. They plan to reallocate funds from emergency fixes to classroom needs. ABC 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Repair crews in Genesee County will close M-54 at Atherton Road for four weeks starting soon as Consumers Energy replaces a 12-inch gas main from 1927, while lane closures on I-75 in Saginaw County will support bridge repairs through July. Drivers should plan extra travel time. ABC 12
- ➤ I-75 work started Monday, March 23, and will continue through June 2026, with crews resurfacing the highway by closing the left lane between Clarkston Road and Baldwin Road and select ramp entrances from Dixie Highway/Saginaw Road to I-75. Drivers should plan for slower traffic (MDOT). MLive
- ➤ Genesee County Parks & Rec released its 2025 report detailing upgraded park facilities and expanded events, including ADA improvements at Wolverine Campground, a $50,000 ORV grant for The Mounds, and enhanced outreach at For-Mar Nature Preserve. - ➤ Mundy Township Senior Center and the Owosso Council on Aging will use $15,000 in Molina grants to reduce isolation among seniors. The centers will launch a ceramics-hand building program and digital literacy classes to boost social connection and wellness. ABC 12
