COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday the Flint Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library hosted the 16th Annual Community Basic Needs Fair at the library—over 30 local agencies offered services from health care and family support to financial help. Attendees received door prizes and giveaways such as diapers and grocery store gift cards.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Flint Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a fatal triple shooting at Richert Manor apartment complex on Court Street that occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday, March 23 — one 23-year-old man died, an 18-year-old is in critical condition, and another 23-year-old is recovering as no arrests have been made.  ABC 12
  • On Friday night, 47-year-old bicyclist Leron Lee Robinson was hit on Dupont Street near West Hamilton Avenue and rushed in critical condition to Hurley Medical Center after an unknown gray vehicle struck him and fled — Flint police continue to investigate the incident.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, a Flint dance studio hosted a March Madness dance competition at New Standard Academy that featured diverse event categories. The competition drew dancers statewide and awarded $1,500 in cash prizes—owner Molly Baskin said the event excited Flint students—creating a memorable community experience.  ABC 12
  • Beyond the Walls Global Ministries hosted a Women's History Extravaganza last Saturday at the Genesys Conference and Banquet Center in Grand Blanc—celebrating women's achievements in business, ministry, and community leadership—with keynote addresses from attorney Trachelle C. Young and doctor Kathy Barton Brown.  ABC 12

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Shiawassee County man turned his 6-6-6 ticket into a record-breaking $2.39 million jackpot while playing the Michigan Lottery’s Fast Cash game. He bought his winning ticket at King’s Corner Market in Owosso and later visited Lottery headquarters—planning to pay bills and invest the remaining funds.  Mid-Michigan Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hurley Medical Center in Flint becomes the first hospital to win Gift of Life Michigan’s Hospital of the Year honor twice, having first won in 2020 and now receiving the award for 2025. Gift of Life noted that in 2024 Hurley ranked second statewide with 29 organ donors — a result of a strong donation culture led by its team.  Mid-Michigan Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Midwest Invitational Rodeo will take place on June 13 and 14 at Genesee County Fairgrounds and will feature top African American riders competing in bull riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said the event will give local families and youth a chance to see the skill — and legacy — of Black cowboys and cowgirls.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Clio soccer earned a shutout win in their season opener as senior goalkeeper Courtney Hadaway made 21 saves and Mackenzie LaFreniere scored the game-deciding goal on the weekend—demonstrating a solid start for the team.  MLive
