At a recent Flint City Council meeting, officials did not approve a plan to use $2 million in ARPA funds to cover a future 5.9% water rate increase—citing concerns over a lack of long-term planning.

City leaders said they will search for other ways to shield residents from rising water costs.

The City of Flint will launch its compost collection initiative on April 1 and ask residents to leave waste on their scheduled trash day to help keep the city clean and green — the program will run through November — as part of the city’s ongoing effort to improve environmental quality.
