COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fenton woman Joan Gray learned her mother’s ashes—once thought lost after a chemical spill—were safely delivered to a PO Box in Wiggins on March 24. USPS confirmed the delay and safe delivery, easing Gray’s worries about her mother’s memory.  ABC 12
  • On March 25, the Ruth Mott Foundation awarded nearly $3M in 16 grants to Flint groups supporting youth programs, public safety, economic opportunity, and neighborhood development from community input during its 25th anniversary. The foundation will share more details on its strategic plan later this year.  Flint Beat
  • Edible Flint will host a Farm Volunteer Orientation Day on Tuesday, April 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Educational Farm on 1628 Beach St, where residents can tour the farm and try early-season hands-on activities; volunteer days will continue through October.  Flint Beat

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Team Rehab Physical Therapy paid nearly $5 million to settle claims that it billed for one-on-one sessions even when care was given in group settings. The chain, which operates clinics in Davison and Grand Blanc, self-reported the issues and added new compliance controls.  ABC 12
  • Freeland-based R1SE, a youth academic support company, won a major investment deal after appearing on ABC's Shark Tank on Wednesday and celebrated with a red carpet event at Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw Township; the company offers tutoring + mentoring to Mid-Michigan students and plans a new location in Frankenmuth.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • UM-Flint theatre students join professional actors at Flint Repertory Theatre to perform the comedy musical Lucky Stiff, which runs until April 4. The production gives students a valuable hands-on experience with professional talent.  Mid-Michigan Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Herman Moore, former Detroit Lions receiver, attended an art therapy session at West Middle School on March 25 to support students and staff coping with the loss of local teacher Jaimi Hagenauer and coach Logan Welch. Local art therapists led the workshop + emphasized teamwork and healing throughout the school year.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flint City Council corrected a clerical error on Monday, March 23 in the funding resolution for North Flint Food Market—switching fiduciary responsibility to North Flint Reinvestment for the $150,000 ARPA funds to support store operations. The market opened in November to serve a local food desert.  MLive
  • Michigan for Responsible Data Centers coalition launched this week to help communities learn about data centers' effects on jobs, power use and environment. State Rep. Martin stressed that projects must fit local land use and power needs — he urged public input to guide future proposals.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • U.S. District Judge Judith E. Levy ordered payments to Flint adults with eligible water crisis injury claims on Monday & the payments will come in two installments, with the second pending final appeals.  ABC 12
