- ➤ On March 29, hundreds gathered at the Flint Institute of Arts Museum to honor César Chávez and Dolores Huerta at a luncheon hosted by the Latinx Technology & Community Center. Community leaders and performers stressed that the event celebrated the activists’ legacy and urged ongoing work for fair treatment and safe neighborhoods — calling on everyone to keep their community strong. - ➤ The LatinX Center of Flint hosted its annual Chavez and Huerta Luncheon at the Flint Institute of Arts Saturday afternoon where community members from mid-Michigan gathered to honor labor rights leaders César Chavez and Dolores Huerta. The event celebrated their work to secure rights for auto and farm workers ahead of National Cesar Chavez Day on March 31. ABC 12

- ➤ Flint police are asking the public to help find 56-year-old Andrea 'Dre' Cooks who went missing on Dec. 26 at the Amtrak station in Flint while he was headed to Chicago; he is described as five feet six inches tall and about 160 pounds with brown eyes and black hair, and anyone with information is urged to call Officer Hughley at 810-237-6822. - ➤ Mustard's Retreat celebrated 50 years together with a special concert held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation on Ballenger Highway Saturday. Band members David Tamulevich, Libby Glover and Michael Hough have played more than seven thousand shows since they met in January 1975 and recorded a new album called By Request with Grammy-winning producer David Barrett. - ➤ Flint Community Schools honored librarian Sharon 'Shari' Burdt on March 26th at Doyle-Ryder Elementary School with a surprise dedication that renamed the library in her honor and recognized her 53 years of service and lasting impact on students — the event also introduced the first annual Sharon Burdt Day. The 82-year-old celebrated her lifelong commitment to literacy with staff, family, and former students in attendance. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Genesee County officials used a new appointment process that drew nine candidates for the Bishop Airport board seat, 10 for the Road Commission position, and 15 for two library board seats. They appointed George Wilkinson and Anne Figueroa on March 26 but will decide on the remaining appointments (deadlocked votes) on April 23. MLive
- ➤ Flint officials approved $2 million from the CNI grant to start abatement work before demolishing the abandoned Atherton East housing complex — an area marked by crates of debris and empty, gutted buildings. The demolition will remove 36 apartment buildings and four non-residential structures to address blight and reduce crime before the grant’s September deadline. Flint Beat
