EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Some children in Flint spent their spring break learning table etiquette, napkin folding, and social graces at the Whaley Historic House Museum with Madame Mercedes Kinnee. They will continue the lessons for the next 10 weeks — teaching them confidence for a bright future. ABC 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flint officials announced plans today to demolish an abandoned church at the corner of East Hamilton Avenue and Saginaw Street as part of the Safe and Clean Summer Initiative—designed to remove blighted structures from the community. They noted that more than 1,200 buildings have already been demolished through a partnership with county, state, and philanthropic groups. ABC 12
- ➤ The Genesee County Road Commission announced four road closures after heavy rains on April 2 caused flooding that led to closures early April 3. Bishop and Sharp Roads in Argentine and Mundy townships — along with Jennings and Elms Roads in northern Genesee — will reopen once flood waters recede as motorists are urged to find alternate routes. - ➤ Flint’s Third Ward candidates are holding a public forum today at Metropolitan Baptist Church from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Three candidates—Beverly Biggs-Leavy, Richard Jones and AC Dumas—will address community concerns ahead of a May 6 primary election to fill a seat left vacant after Councilman Quincy Murphy died last fall.
