CRIME NEWS

  • Crimestoppers of Flint and Genesee County offered a reward of up to $2,500 for tips in an unsolved fatal hit and run on December 14 at 10:40 p.m., when 28-year-old Kira K'Lee Lovelace was killed while walking near N. Dort Highway and E. Carpenter Road as a dark colored pickup truck fled the scene.  Mid-Michigan Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mott Community College’s Fine Arts Gallery is showcasing a photography exhibit by longtime political analyst and professor emeritus Paul Rozycki, running from April 7 through April 25—an art talk with Rozycki is set for 11 a.m. on April 16 at the gallery on campus.  Flint Beat
  • Fenton historian Allie Seibert released her book 'Bloodstained: Exploring Michigan’s Darkest Murders Forgotten By Time' on March 19, detailing five murder cases from 1879 to 1931 including a Flint case where Helen Morgan killed her ex-lover at Glenwood Cemetery—highlighting a story that still raises questions today. Seibert will speak at the Battle Creek Regional History Museum at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 to explain her research methods.  MLive
  • UM-Flint’s Riverbank Arts gallery will host Rust & Resonance, a new art exhibit that shows how Flint’s industrial past shapes its creative future. The show runs from April 11 to May 9—featuring live letterpress demos and jazz music—bringing together work by students, local artists, and community members.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson and country music star Jelly Roll spoke at Oxford University's world literacy summit, where Swanson presented the IGNITE program that helps inmates earn their GED and lower recidivism — Jelly Roll, who helped build a jail music studio, shared his own experience from youth detention.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Burton City Council approved $1.16 million for three road projects on Northbound Grand Traverse, Court Street, and Commerce Parkway with work expected to begin in May. The state will cover most of the cost on the Northbound project while Flint-based Ace-Saginaw Paving Co. will handle pavement preservation and rehabilitation—no road closures are planned—.  MLive
  • More than a year after former Flint Councilman Eric Mays died, his only son is trying to replace the attorney handling his father’s estate — power-of-attorney documents were filed on April 7 in Genesee County Probate Court.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Greater Flint Health Coalition will use a $50,000 grant from Comcast under Project UP to expand its digital literacy and healthcare job training programs for Genesee County residents. The funding will support training digital navigators and further boost the Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities program—building on successes that include over 225 graduates to date.  Mid-Michigan Now
