  • SOS MATERNITY Network will host a community baby shower for pregnant moms in the Ramsdell Room at Flint Farmers Market on Monday, Apr. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., aiming to support expectant mothers in Flint.  Mid-Michigan Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • British TikToker Jason Riley spoke with Gov. Whitmer at a Michigan tourism conference where he shared his first-hand experience of the Great Lakes' wild weather and friendly hospitality. Riley and his partner plan to return in the summer to explore scenic shorelines and local highlights.  MLive
  • The Flint Institute of Arts, UM-Flint, and Magic Wheel Creative will host a free experimental dance performance on Saturday, April 11 at the museum lobby (1120 E. Kearsley St.) where local artists including Mama Sōl and Shanzell Page will lead audience participation to explore Flint’s creative spirit.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Beecher Community School District launched the Golden Ticket Attendance Challenge on Feb. 5 in Mt. Morris Township to boost attendance with a drawing of golden tickets every 10-12 weeks. The initiative, organized with 9 Pathways of Success, offers prizes such as sneakers and Pistons gear to motivate students and staff.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Genesee County will decide on ballot proposals on May 5 covering a police millage renewal in Flushing Township, a $149 million improvement bond for Grand Blanc schools, and a sinking fund millage for Linden school facilities.  MLive
  • The Genesee County Land Bank launches its 2026 Clean and Green program today in Flint with 70 groups set to maintain 3,400 vacant lots every three weeks—supported by grant funding from local foundations to boost community safety and property values.  ABC 12
  • After heavy rain brought four feet of water to a Linus Street backyard last weekend, township officials said they are working with the Genesee County Drain Commission to seek affordable drainage upgrades for the system built in 1939, with estimates reaching $8 million to $11 million.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley signed a proclamation at Flint City Hall today recognizing April as National Donate Life Month. City officials note that 2,700 residents await transplants & urge community members to register as donors and discuss their wishes with loved ones.  ABC 12

  • The Genesee County Health Department and University of Michigan-Flint hosted a free public health expo downtown on Thursday, offering residents access to immunizations, screenings, and education resources. Organizers aimed to make public health services more visible and accessible.  ABC 12
