- ➤ Rev. Robert Sherman McCathern was honored in Atlanta this month for his decades of work with justice-impacted youth and African American families as he leads Flint’s Urban Renaissance Center—his recognition shows his strong commitment to local healing. The Urban Renaissance Center will host Ubuntu Rising on April 24 to bring residents together for workshops, presentations and a performance. MLive
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A car hit a tree along Pierson Road near Longfellow Street and caught fire Tuesday evening — police said the front end was severely damaged — while the Flint Fire Department put out the flames and continued the investigation. ABC 12
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the lease of the first building at the new Flint Commerce Center at the former Buick City site, now home to Victory Packaging and Bunzl Distribution—bringing over 100 jobs to the area. Ashley Capital said it will continue development at the site—promising further investment and job opportunities. ABC 12

- ➤ Gov. Whitmer launched the 'Ticket to Tuition' sweepstakes yesterday where first-time FAFSA filers can win one of forty $10,000 prizes or one of ten $50,000 prizes — she said filling out the FAFSA helps unlock college aid and lower education costs. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Flint Community Schools announced Tuesday evening that Neithercut Elementary School at 2010 Crestbrook Lane will close after this school year - 159 students and most staff will move to Freeman Elementary School at 4001 Ogema Ave. ABC 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Burton City Council approved a mosquito control program using $153,700 to target standing water and test mosquitoes for diseases like West Nile virus. The program is underway with APM Mosquito Control planning to start spraying in May—spraying will occur on Sunday nights unless weather causes an early end. MLive
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Mott Community College announced Tuesday that it has hired Ryan Trevithick to coach the Bears women's basketball team next season while he keeps his job coaching Flint Powers Catholic girls varsity. Trevithick plans to recruit tough local players and build on his five-season record with Powers Catholic (71 to 41) as he works to improve the team's play. MLive
- ➤ Genesee Christian junior Cooper Boike overcame a serious eye injury—he needed a cornea transplant that sidelined him until January—to become the only Flint-area player named Division 4 all-state by the AP. He scored key points in wins and will have surgery in August to help his vision return fully for next season. MLive
- ➤ Tuesday night, Davison senior goalie Emma Dalton made key saves to lead the Cardinals to a 7-5 win over Dow-Midland at Davison High School—senior Kail Glennie scored three goals that helped the team. Head coach Logan Gauthier said the win boosted team confidence—they now plan to face Flushing on Thursday. MLive
