  • Residents will join the Spring Cleanup in downtown Flint on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Greater Flint Arts Council and nearby Riverbank Park—an event honoring local advocate Heather Burnash who died Jan. 5 after battling cancer.  Flint Beat
  • Gloria Coles Flint Public Library named Desmond J. London Sr the executive director, the first African American to lead the 175-year-old library. London brings a decade of leadership and will host an ice cream social on May 19 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the C.S. Mott Community Foundation Room.  MLive

  • Randy Wise BMW of Grand Blanc unveiled its revamped showroom on Friday, April 17 to offer a calm, low-pressure experience for customers. The Wise family business plans further updates with a new Hyundai dealership and a remodeled Mercedes-Benz site nearby.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Halo Burger will reopen its historic downtown venue at 800 Saginaw St. on Monday, Apr. 27 at 10 a.m. with a 9:45 a.m. ribbon cutting and will expand to include a new Cops & Doughnuts precinct, offering collectible items for the first 300 customers.  ABC 12
  • Genesee County spent $74,772,230 on liquor in 2025—a 3% drop from 2024. Costco in Mundy Township led store purchases at $2,021,025 while RailYard Fenton topped bar sales (Fenton), state data shows.  MLive

  • Flint hip-hop artist Jontae appeared on Good Morning Mid-Michigan — he will perform at the Soothing Tunes Room in Flint on April 25.  ABC 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flushing Middle School students carried water jugs on Friday as part of an annual fundraising campaign organized by Water for South Sudan to raise funds for hygiene programs and learn about challenges faced by children in Sudan (a simulation inspired by the book A Long Walk to Water).  ABC 12
  • Ten high school students from Genesee County will pitch innovative business ideas for cash prizes at the Genesee Career Institute in Flint on April 30. The final competition, hosted by Genesee Intermediate School District, advances winners from local district contests.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bill Hunt, a Davison farm owner, risks his wheat crop after weeks of heavy spring rain left fields waterlogged, delaying planting scheduled for late April — drainage efforts have not resolved the issue.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development is investigating a report after a Flint BP station on Clio Road & Myrtle Avenue sold gasoline that contained water in its underground tank, according to a complaint filed Thursday. The station emptied its tank as a precaution and will undergo tests.  ABC 12
  • Flint is launching the Safe and Clean Summer Initiative to boost neighborhood safety and beauty as summer nears. The plan calls for extra police patrols, stricter abandoned vehicle rules + new speed humps, Mayor Sheldon Neeley said.  ABC 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Goodrich’s top-ranked varsity girls soccer team, with six players from its state champion basketball squad, won 2-0 on Thursday at Goodrich High School against Flushing. The team continues to build its winning streak and eyes the state championship as it climbs the Flint Metro League rankings.  MLive
