COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Powered by Grace, a new gym on Flint's west side that blends fitness and faith, offers workouts, Bible studies, and social events to support both physical and spiritual health. The facility will host its second annual 5K run and walk Saturday, May 16 at 9:30 a.m. at 4155 Corunna Rd.  Flint Beat
  • Flint residents will attend a community event on Friday, April 24 that marks 12 years since the water crisis, with a movie screening to remember its impact; first settlement checks were ordered on Monday by U.S. District Judge Judith E. Levy.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Clay Walker will perform at FIM Capitol Theatre (in Flint) soon, with the theatre set to announce further details about the schedule and tickets.  ABC 12
  • Flint residents can join the Owosso Chocolate Walk on Saturday, April 25, from noon to 4 p.m.—a community event where participants can stroll and sample local treats along a designated route.  ABC 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Genesee District Library has eliminated overdue fines so patrons can automatically renew items and only owe replacement costs if items are over five days late. The Flushing branch has moved to the former Dr. Wendell W. Phelps dental office on Boman Street during National Library Week (Apr. 19–25).  ABC 12
  • The Genesee District Library eliminated overdue fines on Monday, April 20, so items without holds now automatically renew and patrons are charged only the replacement cost if an item is five days overdue (no fee is owed when it is returned in good condition).  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 15th annual Mid-Michigan High School Alumni Hockey Tournament will run from April 24 to 26 at Flint’s 810 Sports Complex and Burton’s Crystal Fieldhouse Arena. More than 350 former players will compete in four age divisions while supporting local charities, including the Flint Inner City Youth Hockey Program.  MLive
