COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students from Genesee Career Institute are launching the 2026 Genesee County Veteran Awareness Campaign from May 18 through June 5 to honor local veterans with interviews, photography and mural projects at VFW Hammerberg Memorial Post No. 3720. Local sponsors back the effort as veterans are invited to share their stories.  MLive

  • Entrepreneurs can get free one-on-one business advice at GEN Open Office Hours on Thursday, April 30 from 1-3 p.m. at Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, where industry experts will offer support on planning & financing and networking opportunities.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A water main break has closed a section of Menoutes Drive at Linden Road in Flint Township, and repairs will take one week. Drivers should allow extra travel time during the work.  MLive
  • The Genesee County Road Commission held a meeting today in Flint to highlight work zone safety as construction season starts. Consumers Energy representatives discussed a recent work zone crash to remind drivers to slow down and stay alert.  ABC 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • A cancer support group event is set for Saturday, Apr. 25 at 10 a.m. at Triumphant Temple Christian Church, giving Flint residents a welcoming space to share experiences and find support.  ABC 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Flint-area high school baseball teams are ranked after nearly 10 games into the season with Swartz Creek (14-3) leading the power rankings. Other top contenders include Fenton (9-1) and Owosso (11-3), and rankings are expected to change as the season progresses.  MLive
  • At last week's Ralph Rice Invitational, Western's Braden Vancalbergh finished first while Napoleon's Andrew Norman came second in the pole vault event; between vaults, they exchanged video tips + built trust to improve their technique. Their coaching exchange promises to boost performance at upcoming meets.  MLive
