- ➤ A 45-year-old Swartz Creek resident won $1 million from the lottery with a ticket purchased at an Admiral gas station—he opted for a lump sum payout—and he said his win has opened plans to return to school, launch a nonprofit and buy a new car. - ➤ Marian Hall, a century-old building at 529 Martin Luther King Avenue, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places—Communities First Inc. will redevelop it into a mixed-use project with new housing, retail space, and a five-story addition—aiming to address Genesee County’s affordable housing shortage. - ➤ Flint-area groups have formed the Flint Alliance for Immigrant Rights—offering legal help, education, and mental health services to support immigrant communities facing uncertainty over new immigration policy proposals. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Flint residents can build skills through the Green Workforce Job Training Program, a Spring session offered by a collaboration among M.A.D.E Institute, Kettering University, NOAH, and the Environmental Transformation Movement of Flint at 720 Church St. The eight-week course runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday — registration closes at 5 p.m. Friday, April 25. - ➤ Genesee County has asked for an appraisal of the former Crim Fitness Foundation office at 452 S. Saginaw St. to house the MSU Extension office as officials say buying it for $300,000 is more cost-effective than leasing a new space.
