COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Family Service Agency of Mid-Michigan restored power after two years of outages caused by outdated Consumers Energy equipment. Executive Director Brooke Gow said an 8,000-dollar fix completed Sunday is hoped to prevent future interruptions to essential services (such as computer, thermostat, and phone systems).  ABC 12
  • The Mott Foundation will celebrate 100 years with a free, three-day party at the Flint Cultural Center campus from June 5 to 7, featuring art activities, live performances, community lunch, + a 3-on-3 basketball tournament with free registration until May 31.  ABC 12
  • Flint will host a celebration of sobriety and faith on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Family First Event Center on South Dort Highway featuring praise music and a clean comedy show honoring those who beat addiction while accepting donations at the door.  Mid-Michigan Now

  • Klee Manufacturing and Distribution Co. has made flags since the 1960s from its location at West Bristol Road + Otto Street in Flint. Third-generation owner Karri Johnson said the family business focuses on quality American-made products, now offering flag sales and repairs.  Mid-Michigan Now

  • Flint Community Players has announced an upcoming performance of 'Peter and the Starcatcher' — local theater fans can check show dates and venue details on their website.  ABC 12

  • Clio resident Tricia Squires donated her kidney to help her husband (Joe) on Apr. 23 in a routine procedure at a local hospital.  ABC 12
  • McLaren Flint will soon launch its new prenatal care program that groups expecting parents by due date to reduce pre-term births and postpartum depression + the sessions combine check-ups and group learning on childbirth, newborn care, nutrition, and mental wellness with parents already signing up.  ABC 12
  • Gift of Life Michigan hosted a community breakfast in Grand Blanc on Thursday, Apr. 23 to share stories & educate local leaders and advocates on the life-saving impact of organ and tissue donation.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • St. Mark Community Outreach Center will host its first annual Mental Health Wellness and Resource Fair on May 2 at 615 West McClellan Street (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), offering mental health support, community resource kits and blood pressure screenings.  Mid-Michigan Now

  • Clio remains unbeaten in local softball with an 8-0 record after sweeping Owosso and taking top ranking in the Flint Metro League. They will face Linden in a doubleheader today.  MLive
  • Fenton's Molly Katic and Flint Powers Catholic's Ayden Cook were named Kiwanis Athletes of the Month and honored Thursday at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan (the 50-year-old program recognizes top student-athletes for sports, academics, and service), with additional winners spanning April and May.  MLive
