- ➤ Communities First, Inc. is launching the Orchard Lane Project with 45 rehabilitated residential units and commercial space at 2645 and 2709 Orchard Lane. The group will host open job and trade fairs at its Flint office on April 30 and May 7, and trade contractors must submit bids by May 9 — a step to revitalize the area. MLive

- ➤ Walmart recalled two infant swings that pose suffocation risks and a portable phone charger that may catch fire — the nationwide recall led the retailer to remove these products from stores and online. Shoppers in Flint should review their purchases and return any recalled items. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Grand Blanc High School released students early on Thursday due to a watermain break — the school district said only the high school was affected. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Flint Community Schools was awarded a multi-million-dollar grant from the Michigan Department of Education Consolidated Infrastructure Grant program to build a new high school and combine several sites, reducing active schools from 11 to seven. District leaders said the new facility will improve learning and save money long term — a historic step for the district. Flint Beat
- ➤ The Floyd and Brenda Clack, FBC Initiative will host its fourth annual Flint to HBCU Forum from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 15 at the International Academy of Flint. - ➤ Flint Community Schools received nearly $36 million from the Michigan Department of Education yesterday to modernize schools and consolidate campuses by closing four more buildings plus upgrading existing facilities as enrollment fell, prompting plans for a new high school on the Flint Central High School campus and the shift of Neithercut Elementary students to Freeman Elementary this fall. - ➤ Former executive director Harold Ince Jr. filed a federal lawsuit against the Flint Housing Commission after he was fired for starting an internal probe into board member Geraldine Redmond—he alleges that his termination violated his contract, due process rights, and several state laws. The suit also names members of the City Council and other officials, claiming that Ince has suffered financial harm since being placed on paid leave. MLive

- ➤ A Flint surgeon traveled to Gaza during Ramadan to work at the European Gaza Hospital—she treated trauma patients and performed 27 surgeries including an arm amputation.
