COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Flint's NEH toolshed closed for the season after losing its main CDBG funding—its key support for a $156,000 budget—leaving residents without free access to essential landscaping tools. City officials have reached out with temporary funds while NEH applies for ARPA support to help restore the service for our community.  Flint Beat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kearsley Community Schools and Meijer launched Project SEARCH at the Burton Meijer store in September to let six students with special needs learn job skills in work areas like grocery stocking and the bakery — the internship ends May 30 with graduation on June 3. Genesee Intermediate School District coordinates the program and teacher David Hall meets with the students each morning to help build their independence and prepare them for future employment — the initiative sets a new path for real-world job training.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hundreds of high school gamers competed in the state esports championship Saturday at the University of Michigan-Flint—players took part in 11 games with teams from Mid-Michigan joining the contest. Team captain Daniel Haggerty from Montrose Hill McCloy High said his team learned to play Rainbow Six Siege and advanced to the finals after a rocky start.  ABC 12
