- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Genesee County launched its BIG Raffle selling 500 tickets at $20 to fund youth mentoring. Tickets are available at the Flint office until June 22, and the drawing will occur between 3 and 5 p.m. that day at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club. MLive
- ➤ Kew's Korner Pub, managed by Tory Vancobb since July, has evolved into a community hub in Flint where customers share karaoke & events in a space that fosters connection. The bar at 4509 Saginaw St recently hosted a turkey drive and is planning new ventures such as a coffee shop. Flint Beat

- ➤ Halo Burger reopened its historic location at 800 Saginaw St. Monday, April 27 after renovations restored its original 1929 style. The first 300 guests who buy a Boston Cooler received a custom collectible Halo Burger — Vernors glass, celebrating the building’s soda shop roots. Mid-Michigan Now

- ➤ Two local groups — Ananich Legacy Foundation and North Flint Neighborhood Action Council — will host a free Civics and Citizenship workshop on May 27 at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The session teaches residents about local government roles and ways to get involved. - ➤ Flint residents and activists say twelve years after officials switched the water source to save money, lead from aging service lines still affects daily life & efforts to update water testing and replace service lines show slow progress. Mid-Michigan Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flint native and former U.S. Senator Donald Riegle died Monday, April 27 — he was 88 and served from 1977 to 1995; Genesee County officials ordered flags to be flown at half-staff to honor his legacy. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Flint officials add a third partner to the team working on a long-term water stability plan. Dylan Luna from the school board joins Mayor Neeley and Finance Chair Priestley to form a subcommittee aimed at securing safe water and keeping rates affordable. ABC 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ RxKids, which gives cash payments to pregnant women and mothers (offering $1,500 mid-pregnancy and $500 monthly), will expand this summer to 20 new communities including more areas of Genesee County outside Flint. The program launched in Flint two years ago and now serves 42 communities statewide. ABC 12
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The vote for Flint-area Athlete of the Week (covering April 20-26) is open until 9 a.m. Friday, May 1. High school athletes in baseball, softball, soccer, track and field, tennis, lacrosse and golf are set to be recognized through community voting. MLive
- ➤ Flint Kearsley senior Jameson Vanier received the Mr. Bowler award on April 19 at the Polish Century Club in Sterling Heights, capping a career with four state titles. He led his team with a 219 average this season + became the first Kearsley bowler to earn the honor. MLive
