Students from Genesee Intermediate School District launch the 'We Are All in DEBT to a VET' campaign to honor veterans from May 18 through June 5 using photography, profiles, and murals at a VFW post.

The YWCA of Greater Flint held its largest Circle Lunch fundraiser Wednesday, April 29 at Genesys Banquet & Conference Center in Grand Blanc, raising funds to support survivors and maintain its safehouse shelter through education and advocacy.

Childcare costs locally rose from $10,861 in 2023 to $13,454 in 2026 (Michigan's Children reported this increase), and advocates are urging lawmakers to expand scholarship programs for families of children under four.

State economic leaders visited Flint on Wednesday to review local investments under the Make It In Michigan strategy by touring projects such as the expanded Michigan State University School of Medicine and the Flint Farmer's Market (focusing on growing jobs and supporting businesses).

Flint Community Schools is launching home visits to help families overcome barriers keeping students from attending school, using trained community teams and partnering with Concentric Educational Solutions to reach 2,700 learners at eight sites.

On Apr 29, winners of the Genesee Intermediate School District spelling bee were announced after students competed to spell challenging words (such as C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N), showing strong local academic talent.

Bottled water was provided to students and staff at Atherton Junior Senior High School in Burton after water testing revealed coliform bacteria.

The district is flushing the system and will submit follow-up tests before resuming normal water use.
