COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Motherly Intercession opened a new space today to provide education services aimed at breaking the cycle of generational incarceration in Flint. The organization will offer tutoring, summer day camps and the In-Touch Teen Program to better serve local families.  ABC 12
  • Firefighters, police officers and prosecutors competed in a dodgeball tournament in Grand Blanc on Thursday night to raise about $5,000 for Voices for Children Advocacy Center to support kids facing neglect and abuse. Child Protective Services workers won the tournament—adding to the event's impact on community support.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded just after midnight on May 2 at the Travel Inn on Dort Highway after reports of a shooting and found a 55-year-old man dead; two suspects remain in custody as investigators treat the incident as homicide.  ABC 12
  • Flint police and state police responded on May 2 to a shooting report at the Travel Inn at 2002 S. Dort Highway and found a man aged 55 dead in his motel room — the investigation is ongoing.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Applewood at 1400 E. Kearsley St. in Flint opened its 34-acre gardens and estate to visitors free of charge on May 1 (the property was built in 1916 by automotive pioneer Charles Stewart Mott). The site now offers self-guided house tours, guided garden tours and monthly programs with a new ADA-accessible pavilion.  MLive
