- ➤ One Eleven opened in Fenton on April 22 with a tapas-style menu that blends Cajun, Asian, Portuguese and Spanish flavors curated by Chef Luis Fernandes—also a manager at Redwood Steakhouse. The restaurant offers dishes like Hawaiian Shrimp and Korean sticky ribs plus plans for online ordering and future outdoor seating. MLive
- ➤ LaBria Lane (30) transformed her front-lawn pop-up into MarySam’s Gardens and Plant Shop in Flint, a garden center named for her great-grandparents that now offers custom floral arrangements, tropical houseplants, vegetable transplants and artful workshops. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it will join the Flint Farmers’ Market Pavilion on May 11. Flint Beat

- ➤ A 28-year-old man died Friday in a Detroit hospital from a gunshot wound he suffered on April 25 at a Family Dollar store at Clio Road and Stewart Avenue in Mt. Morris Township when a clerk shot him amid a dispute—authorities say investigators may revisit the self-defense claim. ABC 12

- ➤ D&W’s Street Eatery showcased its Latin American BBQ on Cinco de Mayo by using its fleet of food trucks to serve customers across Mid Michigan—drawing local interest in a festive, cultural experience. ABC 12

- ➤ James Yake, the Genesee Intermediate School District director for health, safety and nutrition, has been named the new superintendent of LakeVille Community Schools following a long search—he will officially start his role on July 1. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ First responders at Bishop International Airport held a disaster exercise—simulating a plane crash into a railway car that released deadly gas—to test Genesee County's Emergency Plan. Actors playing hurt people were sent to Hurley Medical Center so officials can review the exercise and plan improvements. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Genesee County Prosecutor's Office is struggling with a large backlog after a Michigan Supreme Court ruling ended life without parole for 19 and 20-year-olds — prosecutor David Leyton asked for extra staff to review the cases by a July deadline. The office is also still handling reviews from a 2012 decision on juvenile cases and warns it may face contempt of court if it does not meet the deadline. Mid-Michigan Now
