COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lydia Starrs will become vice president of community impact at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint effective May 11, where she will lead grant making, scholarships and community leadership efforts. Starrs, promoted from senior program officer, brings nearly a decade of local service to the role.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • District voters rejected a sinking fund millage for Linden Community Schools on Tuesday — the proposal would have raised funds from 2027 to 2036 with 1,130 no votes over 1,083 yes votes. Officials now must rework plans for future improvements.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Insight Health Systems opened its first pediatric specialty clinic in Flint on Tuesday, May 5. The new Pediatric Neurology Department, led by Dr. Ateeq Haseeb, provides evaluations and treatment for children with neurological conditions.  MLive
  • Hurley Children's Hospital now has a new transport incubator thanks to ELGA Credit Union's Raise the Purse event, which raised $69,700 to help safely move premature and critically ill newborns via helicopter, airplane or ambulance. The equipment supports specialized care during transfers.  MLive
