EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educare Network holds its annual meeting today through May 9 at the Riverfront Conference Center in Flint — the event spans three days at a key local education venue.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mackinac Center for Public Policy sued Flint Community Schools on April 30 after the district failed to provide travel and expense records requested under Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act on Feb. 17— the nonprofit asks the court to order the district to release all documents unredacted.  MLive
  • Flint Third Ward voters tied with 165 votes each for Beverly Biggs-Leavy and A.C. Dumas on May 6 and the two will face off on August 6 to finish Councilman Quincy Murphy's term — a recount may be requested after certification.  Flint Beat
  • Congresswoman Kristen McDonald-Rivet announced she will co-chair the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force — a group that will educate lawmakers and the public on forever chemicals and develop legislation to reduce PFAS contamination. The task force will also secure federal investments for research, remediation and prevention over the next two years.  Mid-Michigan Now

  • Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church in Flint will host a mental health program on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that plans to offer local residents mental health support and resource connections—meeting community needs.  ABC 12
