COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bethel United Methodist Church in Flint will host a free Blessing of the Bikes event on Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m.—4 p.m.  ABC 12
  • David Scott started Passages Storytelling in Flint last year at Queen’n Provisions, where about 10 storytellers share true stories in a supportive space & draw more than 50 people despite the 50-seat capacity. The next event will take place on May 31 with an open theme for favorite true stories.  Flint Beat

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Late Tuesday night, a fire destroyed Homeboy Barbeque on Beecher Road near Seymour Road in Clayton Township—fire crews from Flushing, Flint Township, Mt. Morris Township and Gaines Township responded to the scene.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Jedediah Brown, a Texas activist who led a protest outside Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley’s home featuring a white casket and a bullhorn message, was arrested on May 6 for disturbing the peace—an event that followed police warnings about threats to public safety.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • FIA has announced that the Flint Block Party will take place soon along with other local events, and more details will be shared by organizers as the dates approach. Community members are encouraged to stay tuned for updates on the schedule and activities.  ABC 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Voters in Genesee County approved four school funding proposals on May 6. Kearsley, Bentley, Grand Blanc, and Montrose schools received renewed measures while Davison's proposal was rejected—ensuring state funds continue for key services.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation said on Wednesday that 25 million dollars in grants will help fix up mid-Michigan towns so they can attract more people and tax money. The funds will give 1 million dollars to Saginaw, 500,000 dollars to Bay City, 1 million dollars to the Midland Business Alliance Foundation, 1 million dollars to the Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission and 1 million dollars to Fenton.  Mid-Michigan Now
