  • Sisters Kara Dahlberg and Jana Suppes have opened 81Ohm Massage & Co. in downtown Flint to offer affordable massage treatments and fill a gap in local wellness. The studio will add yoga and fitness classes in June & already shares space with a local holistic center.  Flint Beat

CULTURE NEWS

  • Over 50 students from Madison and New Standard Academy held a joint Arabian Nights prom at Flint Farmers Market on May 9, 2025. They walked the red carpet and showcased stylish dresses and smart suits—highlighting creative student fashion.  MLive
  • Country music star Sam Hunt will headline the eighth annual Ally Community Concert on August 23 at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club during the Ally Challenge golf tournament— a PGA Champions event running from August 18 to 24. Tournament tickets, which include concert access, will be on sale from Thursday at 10 a.m. with prices starting at $15.  ABC 12
  • Flint Symphony Chorus and Orchestra will hold their final concert of the season on Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Whiting Auditorium—local audiences can enjoy the season-ending performance.  ABC 12
  • The Capitol Theatre in Flint will host the lip sync show ‘Mott, Motown & More: The Legacy of Legends’ on Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m.—the event offers a live celebration of iconic music styles.  ABC 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mott Community College board adjourned a nearly six-hour meeting without voting on a contract to make interim president Shaunda Richardson Snell permanent amid protests over a lack of transparency — union president Brian Littleton said the board rushed without a national search. The board will meet again on Monday at 11 a.m., and faculty may seek another vote of no confidence in the board.  Mid-Michigan Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Texas activist charged with disorderly conduct last week plans to return to Flint on June 1 with hundreds of demonstrators if city officials do not improve by May 31. Brown said Mayor Sheldon Neeley can avoid the protest by holding a community forum or resign — he was arrested during previous protests and has filed a lawsuit against city leaders.  MLive
  • Flint City Council did not vote to fill the vacant Third Ward seat in its meeting, leaving residents without representation since Quincy Murphy died in September. Residents voiced frustration during public comment and the council now violates the city charter—if a vote is not reached, the seat will remain empty until a general election in August.  Mid-Michigan Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Country music star Sam Hunt will headline the Ally Community Concert on Aug. 23 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc Township following the second round of play at the Ally Challenge, which runs from Aug. 18 to 24. Tournament tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 15.  MLive
  • Over the weekend, Flint-area high school softball tournaments produced wins as the Blue Devils extended their eight-game win streak to win a tournament — while Lake Fenton, Grand Blanc, Linden, and Goodrich posted winning records and Ortonville Brandon won the Heather Williamson Memorial Tournament.  MLive
