- ➤ Flint Beat won 15 awards from the Michigan Press Association for its 2024 news coverage, including News Media Publication of the Year for the local circulation category — it is the fourth year in a row the paper earned the title. - ➤ Horace Peterson, who spent over 50 years in prison after a 1973 robbery in Flint that led to the death of Laurie Snyder, will soon be released as the court vacated his first-degree murder conviction—his family cheered as his release awaits final paperwork. ABC 12
- ➤ A head-on crash on Monday morning on M-15 near Coldwater Road in Richfield Township killed a 36-year-old man from Lapeer — police said his high speed may have contributed — and left a 30-year-old Richfield Township resident in critical condition. ABC 12
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Consumers Energy has started a project to replace old steel gas pipelines with new plastic ones along Bristol Road in Genesee County—drivers may see lane closures during work. The project will finish by the end of September and will keep gas safe for over 170,000 homes and businesses. Mid-Michigan Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Genesee County Jail's IGNITE program celebrated its 100th GED award to an inmate and honored 27 graduates on Monday, marking a key milestone in its efforts to provide education and job training. Sheriff Chris Swanson said the program also offers aftercare support (such as stable housing and driver's license restoration) to help reduce re-offending. ABC 12

- ➤ Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said the department will acquire a new search and rescue dog outfitted with a GPS collar to search off-leash for missing people and help in emergencies.
