- ➤ More than 23,000 Consumers Energy customers in Genesee County are without power as an issue at multiple substations affects areas such as Burton, Grand Blanc, northern Holly, Atlas Township and parts of Davison—Consumers is still investigating the cause and has not given a time for power restoration. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Oliver T’s Market in Grand Blanc led Genesee County in liquor sales in 2024 with reported sales of $196,252, while local establishments like Flint’s Foutch’s Pub, King’s Cigar Lounge, and Rube’s Bar also posted strong numbers (showing a competitive market). MLive
- ➤ North Flint Food Market received a $1.5-million grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation on May 15 to stock shelves, hire about 30 workers, and open later this year on the northwest side of the city—officials say the funding meets a critical need after delays from rising costs during the COVID-19 pandemic. - ➤ Flint’s population increased slightly to 79,735 from 79,669 based on 2024 estimates released on May 15, marking the first small gain after decades of decline—Mayor Sheldon Neeley said the modest rise reflects ongoing work to stabilize neighborhoods, improve public safety, and invest in infrastructure. - ➤ Michigan lawmakers extended the financial disclosure deadline after encountering repeated errors with the new MiTN website—Gov. Whitmer signed the new law that now allows filings by email and moves the deadline from May 15 to June 13. MLive
