CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 28-year-old Byron man allegedly punched his mother and set a car on fire near the 12000 block of Hogan Road on March 8 — he faces charges of fourth degree arson, assaulting or resisting a police officer, and domestic violence with a pretrial hearing set for May 20 in Genesee County Circuit Court. - ➤ Horace Peterson was released on May 14 after serving 52 years in prison for a wrongful murder conviction—his freedom achieved by a joint petition from legal teams and celebrated by his devoted family. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, a $10,000 grant from the Ben Bryer Foundation helped children on Flint's northside build home libraries at Holmes STEM Middle School Academy. Each child selected five books—ranging from classics to contemporary novels—with support from the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library. ABC 12

- ➤ A court ruled that a lawsuit by the mother of two children who died in a 2022 house fire in Flint can move forward—attorney Todd Flood says the case shows the city, the Flint Fire Department and two former firefighters did not meet their duty. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Hurley Medical Center has partnered with the Flint Institute of Music to bring music therapy to NICU babies, with therapist Emily Dehem tailoring sessions by humming, singing, and guitar playing since last June—her visits help calm the infants and may lead to earlier discharges for the babies.
