- ➤ Flint's only active soap box derby track will reopen tomorrow at Cronin Derby Downs. Race day begins at 7:30 a.m. with vehicle inspections, a driver meeting and a ribbon cutting before races start at 9:05 a.m. Live music, fun runs and an awards ceremony are also scheduled. Flint Beat
- ➤ Genesee County is partnering with local organizations and businesses to launch a historical scavenger hunt for America's 250th anniversary. Residents use physical passbooks to collect stamps at 32 sites plus earn a commemorative plastic coin when five stamps are collected. ABC 12
- ➤ Community Foundation of Greater Flint promoted Lydia Starrs to vice president of community impact effective May 11 — recognizing nearly a decade of service and extensive work in grantmaking and scholarships as she previously oversaw about $1M in annual awards in Genesee County. MLive
- ➤ More than 30 organizations across Genesee County are celebrating America’s 250th with a passbook program that gives a souvenir token after five stamps & a commemorative medal after ten. - ➤ Flint City Council approved a $1.239 million contract with Gross Construction to improve St. John Street Neighborhood Memorial Park. The project will add a wider river trail, relocated parking with a new pavilion, and upgraded amenities, with a groundbreaking ceremony planned with Mayor Sheldon Neeley’s office soon. Flint Beat
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A study in The Lancet Public Health Journal found that Flint’s Rx Kids program — offering $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 monthly for infancy — reduced low birthweight, preterm births and NICU admissions; researchers analyzed 4,500 births from Jan. 2021 to June 2025 and the program operates in 42 communities.
