COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Chippewa Nature Center hosts a native plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Flint City Bucks open their season at Atwood Stadium with gates at 6 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m.—offering family fun along with the Midland Antique Festival at County Fairgrounds and the Saginaw Art Museum Youth Arts Festival—and on Sunday the ‘Pins 4 Prosperity’ Bowl-A-Thon kicks off at Stardust Lanes to continue the weekend’s local events.  MLive
  • Renovations to the historic Berston Field House on Flint’s north side are nearing completion on a $42 million expansion that will add multiple basketball courts, an elevated track, and seating for up to 1,200 people — boosting community activities and sports options. Executive Director James Avery said the upgraded facility will open in 2026 with additional plans for little league baseball, softball, and pickleball courts.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Jermaine Robinson, 18, was bound over to trial in Genesee County Circuit Court for the first-degree murder of his 14-year-old girlfriend after a March 11 argument turned violent on Millbrook Drive behind River Village Apartments in Flint—he faces up to life in prison with no chance of parole.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Flint and Genesee County are hosting the 53rd annual Juneteenth celebration with 23 free events from today until June 22. The celebration honors Black history and community—its highlight is the parade on June 19 at Max Brandon Park.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congresswoman McDonald Rivet requested federal funds to include several projects in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget that will expand safe drinking water access in mid-Michigan. Local officials in Fenton, Linden, Bangor, Midland and Buena Vista said that if approved, the upgrades — including new water lines, lead pipe replacements and emergency power for water systems — will safeguard residents and boost local economies.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • The City of Flint has proposed using $510,000 in ARPA funds for an In-Home Plumbing Program that will replace faucets, water lines and plumbing components in up to 100 homes pending City Council approval. The proposal aims to reduce lead risks and improve public health in these homes.  Mid-Michigan Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • McLaren Flint completed a $61 million expansion that added more than 13,700 square feet of clinical space to the Karmanos Cancer Institute to boost surgical oncology care and expanded its Proton Therapy Center to prepare for two new upright proton therapy units (expected to be operational by 2026) that will nearly double treatment capacity.  MLive
