- ➤ A 63-year-old Saginaw woman testified before the Michigan Parole Board on May 29 to seek clemency for a 1986 Flint murder while McLaren Flint completed its $61M expansion to improve cancer care. Flint City Council members warned of potential layoffs as the budget deadline nears, and local news also reported pleas in a meth-related toddler death, a new playground opening on the north side, an ownership change at Kickers Sports Bar & Grill, and vandalism under investigation at the Flint Institute of Music. - ➤ Michigan State Police investigated a shooting outside Vibes Night Club in Flint on June 1 — a 36-year-old man died and a 44-year-old man was injured — and no suspect is in custody. ABC 12
- ➤ A shooting at Vibez Nightclub (5533 N. Saginaw St.) in Flint on Sunday, June 1 at 2:15 a.m. killed a 36-year-old man and injured a 44-year-old man who is in good condition as state police continue to investigate the incident. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A severe geomagnetic storm hit Earth on June 1-2 and may extend into June 3, making it possible for northern lights to be seen in Flint—clear skies are expected although smoke from Canada might mute the colors. - ➤ About 80 demonstrators led by activist Jedidiah Brown gathered downtown on June 1 to protest the lack of government transparency over delayed water crisis settlements—marching from City Hall toward Civic Park while voicing concerns over crime and a divided council. The protest turned tense when police detained one protester after pulling him from a vehicle, and Brown urged residents to attend the city council meeting today for further discussion. MLive
