- ➤ The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation awarded more than $1 million to fill funding gaps for four trail and sidewalk projects in Genesee County, including segments in Fenton, Grand Blanc Township, and Burton — the funds will boost safe and connected trail access as the county moves forward with its master plan, and residents can offer input at the Trails Symposium on June 11 at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library. - ➤ Father Eduard Lorenzo, who served Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Mt. Morris Township for over 30 years, died on Monday at 93—parishioners will honor him as he lies in state on Friday with a full funeral mass set for Saturday. ABC 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A special Flint City Council meeting on Monday to pass the budget ended in a melee when police were called to remove protesters—leaving the meeting halted as the charter deadline was missed. ABC 12
- ➤ Four plaintiffs filed a federal lawsuit on June 3 against Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley, Police Chief Terence Green and other officers—alleging that on June 1 police used excessive force and political retaliation by forcibly removing a man from his vehicle during a protest. MLive
- ➤ Governor Whitmer warned in a statement that nearly $300 billion in proposed federal cuts to SNAP and Medicaid could increase hunger for 1.5 million Michiganders—she noted that the programs lifted 232,000 people above poverty, including 101,000 children, and urged Michigan's representatives to act. - ➤ The Genesee County Drain Commissioner's Office celebrated the opening of new Digestion and Dewatering Facilities at its wastewater treatment plant in Montrose Township on Monday. The upgrades, funded by ARPA and state grant funds, will improve reliability—reducing environmental impact and future costs for local residents. ABC 12
- ➤ Flint will transfer its income tax collection to the Michigan Department of Treasury beginning in 2027—taxpayers will file both city and state returns electronically for wages earned in 2026. Mayor Sheldon Neeley and State Treasurer Rachael Eubanks confirmed the change, and Flint will continue to collect tax from wages this year. ABC 12
