COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties hosted an expungement and child support clinic today in Flint—helping local residents clear their records for improved job and housing opportunities—and attorney Kamilah Horne assisted attendees while noting that more clinics, including one for driver license restoration, will be scheduled in the future.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • Former Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio delivered a keynote speech at the Inaugural Fatherhood Legacy Luncheon Fundraiser hosted by InvolvedDad in Flint on Thursday—designed to raise funds to strengthen Michigan families. The event held at The Durant highlighted the impact of positive male influences on family involvement.  Mid-Michigan Now
  • The North Flint Neighborhood Action Council & The Safe Place Initiative are hosting a memorial event today at Pulaski Street & Martin Luther King Boulevard from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community members can paint a stone to honor victims of gun violence with supplies provided.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flint Township Planning Commission approved a site plan for a new GM storage lot on a 29-acre site along Westminster Drive that will house up to 7,000 vehicles to consolidate GM’s off-site storage across the county. GM will meet strict conditions — including an 8-foot berm, greenbelt buffer, and controlled access — and expects the site to be operational by fall.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Street band WAR will headline the Concert @17 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc Township on Aug 22 during the Ally Challenge, performing after the first round of golf and requiring a tournament ticket or weekly pass — a key part of this summer event.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flint City Council members agreed on several points during a special Wednesday night meeting as they work to pass a balanced budget by June 30 and extended the sewer budget through 2026. Protestors gathered at City Hall and one person was arrested for recording video outside the designated area—council members also requested that the mayor or a staff member attend emergency budget meetings— to keep the process public.  ABC 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Clio Mustangs beat Linden 6-1 with senior Mason Benner’s 3-RBI double leading the team—now they will face Yale on Saturday at St. Clair Community College. This win moves Clio into the regional finals after a season of challenges.  MLive
  • Davison baseball won a 6-5 game over Fenton on Wednesday at Oxford High School, with Michael Kirby scoring the winning run on Brady Brown's bunt in the eighth inning—pushing the team to the regional finals. Davison will face Lake Orion on Saturday at Grand Blanc High School in the next round of the tournament.  MLive
