ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A pickup truck crashed into a building in Flint Township on Friday just before noon at Diplomat Corporate Park on Elms Rd — police reported that the vehicle was partially inside the building when responders arrived. Mid-Michigan Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rajinder Singh Minhas, president of Lockhart Chemical, will stand trial on four felony charges—falsely altering a public record, uttering and publishing a false record, endangering the public, and discharging an injurious substance—after 15,000 gallons of an oil-chemical mixture spilled into the Flint River on June 15. - ➤ Lockhart Chemical’s director, 60-year-old Rajinder Singh Minhas, is set to stand trial on four felony charges (falsely altering a record, publishing a false record, endangering the public, and discharging an injurious substance) for allegedly neglecting maintenance that caused a 15,000-gallon oil-chemical spill into the Flint River in 2022 and he faces extra charges for air pollution and hazardous waste violations. - ➤ A 17-year-old male from Flint Township is accused of starting a fire at Homeboy Barbeque near Flushing on May 6 and now faces adult felony charges including first-degree arson+second-degree home invasion+breaking and entering a building+two counts of vehicle break-in. ABC 12
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Flint Institute of Arts now hosts MI Ink: The Art of Tattoos—an exhibition that highlights tattoo art from a once marginalized practice to a celebrated fine art style. The exhibit features work from over 30 Michigan tattoo artists and transforms the Exploration Annex into a working tattoo parlor for visitors until Aug. 31. MLive

- ➤ Powers Catholic High School named Kate Gross as its new president, effective July 1. She taught for 15 years at Saint Robert Bellarmine and served on the board—she will work with staff, alumni, and donors to grow the school's programs for its 550 students. MLive
- ➤ Today, youth in Flint gathered at Financial Plus Credit Union to learn healthy money habits under Mayor Sheldon Neeley’s Youth Financial Literacy Program. The event featured prizes and fun activities (such as a money machine and treats) and taught how to open bank accounts (according to financial wellness specialist Derek Lewis). Mid-Michigan Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fifty new state police troopers took the oath last week and are now assigned to posts across Michigan including Flint. The ceremony was led by Col. James F. Grady II at the 148th Trooper Recruit School — the troopers received training in patrol, marksmanship, and defensive tactics. MLive
- ➤ Flint City proposed a $25,000 emergency initiative to help students left without support after the federal order forced the Job Corps Center to close on June 3. The funds from the city's opioid settlement grant will cover 30 days of housing at the University of Michigan-Flint—officials also plan to review the lease for repurposing the facility if it expires in July.
