COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, Genesee County received over $1 million from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to fill funding gaps for four trail expansions across Fenton, Grand Blanc Township and Burton — including Silver Lake Road Trail, Perry Road Trail, Embury Cook Road Trail, and Iron Belle Trail Pathway. Community stakeholders met at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library during the Flint and Genesee County Trails Symposium to share ideas on future trail and sidewalk projects. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ The ongoing expansion of Berston Field House now includes its newest addition—The BB Nolden Center—which honors BB Nolden, a longtime public servant who served as a Genesee County commissioner and Flint city councilmember before his sudden death in 2022 at age 57. The multi-million dollar project will add a gymnasium with basketball courts and an elevated track plus space for a boxing gym, art and music rooms, and dance studios. Mid-Michigan Now

- ➤ Lapeer police arrested 37-year-old Dequantell Hayward-Lee Jamerson of Flint after he jumped on a Holiday Inn Express lobby counter with what looked like a handgun from a bag — no money was stolen and he faces a robbery fourth offense charge with a return to court on June 20. ABC 12
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Friends of Modern Art will host the 58th annual Flint Art Fair at the Flint Institute of Arts this weekend—June 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and June 15 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.—featuring over 100 juried Michigan artists working in various media. Dads get free entry on Father's Day and kids under 12 enter free while local art groups add live music, food trucks, and a children’s area. MLive
- ➤ Flint will host the Midwest Invitational Rodeo—an event honoring Black cowboys with cultural pride and competition at the Genesee County Fairgrounds in Mt. Morris Township. The two-day event will open on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. with advance tickets at $25 and day-of tickets at $30. Flint Beat
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Sheldon Neeley signed papers to launch a summer jobs program for Flint teens ages 15 to 19, giving them a chance to gain job experience and learn life skills. The program will host a hiring event today at the Clio Road Service Center from 4 to 6 p.m.—with city staff available to help teens complete their applications. ABC 12
- ➤ Flint City Council postponed voting on the fiscal year 2026 budget after missing the June 2 deadline—discussions continue on the master budget resolution with a new vote expected by June 30. A resident said the delay may lead to service disruptions and possible job layoffs starting July 1. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Flint City Council approved the 24-25 budget for the 25-26 fiscal year with a 7-0 vote Wednesday night and set aside funds for wage, pension and benefit increases — including special revenue, debt service, capital improvement and water funds — to avoid layoffs and a shutdown in services. - ➤ Flint city council voted 4—4 on a low-interest loan application from the state Drinking Water Revolving Fund, leaving $29.4M in required water system upgrades for a Torrey Road booster station and an aging transmission line in limbo. City officials say they will work to secure future funding to complete the necessary water improvements. MLive
