COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday at the corner of Saginaw St. and Stewart Ave, the old gas station was torn down to clear space for Sacred Heart Veteran’s Village, a project that will provide transitional housing for local veterans. The development will also feature a community resource center offering health care, education and other supportive services. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ Mundy Township will build a 25,000-square-foot indoor center called LIGHT House that will serve as the regional headquarters for Special Olympics athletes and others with disabilities. The facility—offering practice space, exercise classes, and learning sessions—is set to be finished in two years, and a fundraiser on June 26 will help meet its $8—10 million cost. ABC 12

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ An urgent care center focused on mental health unveiled its $8.2 million expansion in Genesee County on Wednesday when community members toured the new facility on West Bristol Road (funded by a community mental health millage and a state grant). The center will open in phases and offer 24/7 behavioral health as well as crisis support services. Mid-Michigan Now
- ➤ The Genesee County Health Department will offer no-cost HIV testing at the Genesee Free Medical Clinic on National HIV Testing Day at 2437 Welch Boulevard in Flint from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—testing is confidential, requires no insurance or ID, and visitors can also enjoy free food, games, and prizes. - ➤ Hope Network opened a new mental health center on Beecher Road in Flint that offers 24/7 help for people in crisis. Hope Network and Genesee Health Systems work together to give safe rooms, caring staff, and space for family (all to help stop crises before they get worse). Mid-Michigan Now
