BUSINESS NEWS

  • On The Bricks Food & Spirits opened in downtown Flint with a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. Thursday at 555 S. Saginaw St. — The new restaurant and bar offers drink specials, prize giveaways, and previews of happy hour deals while aiming to provide a family-friendly space that will boost downtown energy.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday, bikers from across Mid-Michigan held a motorcycle procession from the Davison Eagles Club to Allen Funeral Home in tribute to Stephanie Thomas, who was killed in a hit-and-run near the Outdoor Adventures campground in Richfield Township on June 13—police arrested a 58-year-old man on a preliminary charge for failing to report the incident as they continue investigating.  ABC 12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Flint officials have set up cooling centers—Mays Community Center, McKinley Center, Brennan Center, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Christian Love Faith Center, and Latinx Technology Center—to help residents deal with a heat wave expected to raise temperatures this weekend. Residents, especially children and older adults, are urged to stay indoors between noon and 4 p.m. to avoid heat-related illnesses.  ABC 12
  • A herd of 48 goats will arrive in Flint next week to eat invasive Buckthorn on several Genesee County Land Bank properties. The goats, funded by a grant from the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network, will graze on eight parcels near Ramona Park and host a 'Meet the Goats!' event on July 25 (4 to 6 p.m.) to share details about this eco-friendly project.  ABC 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hope Network moved to a new site — in Flint’s medical district near McLaren Hospital — to expand mental health services so that over 3,000 Genesee County residents, including both adults and children, can get timely care.  ABC 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • NBA stars Miles Bridges and Monte Morris return to Flint today to inspire local youth at the Jr. NBA All Star Weekend event held at the Insight Health and Fitness Center at 4500 S. Saginaw from noon to 1:30 p.m. The event is part of the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village Jr. NBA season and will teach young athletes the basics of basketball skills and teamwork — a chance for them to learn and grow.  MLive
